Waldorf homeschooling Mama
A State and Waldorf trained teacher with 14+ years of experience, in the UK
Welcome to my Waldorf homeschool blog!
My journey into waldorf homeschooling
I am Mariam, a State and Waldorf trained teacher based in London. I quit school teaching to homeschool my boys and now I am sharing my knowledge and experience through this Waldorf homeschool blog.
My teaching journey began in 2009 after I graduated from university, with a Bsc Honours in Economics and Finance.
Throughout my younger years, I tried to avoid math - maybe some of you can relate. Math however, followed me wherever I went (yes - I didn't realise economics at university was all number crunching and statistical modelling). In 2012, I finally decided to surrender and I formally trained as a mathematics teacher.
Over the years
During my teaching career, I have taught mathematics at primary and secondary levels. Although my State qualification is in secondary maths, in 2017 I completed a Singapore Math training course suited to primary teaching. Singapore Math has become a popular method to teach by in UK primary schools, and I do like using their workbooks for math practice.
In 2018, I started a Waldorf teacher training course whilst also teaching math at my local Waldorf school. At school, I was part of an Ofsted inspection and the Head received excellent feedback for my lesson. Following on from this, I began mentoring other teachers and ran mathematics training sessions for teachers at the school.
Fast Forward to Present Day
After a very successful mathematics teaching career, I decided to put my career on hold. The reason for doing this is that, I wanted to homeschool my own child (I only had one at the time). In our homeschool, I cover a variety of subjects and whilst I stay true to Waldorf ways, I do adapt things to suit our family. My Waldorf inspired Urdu resources such as these flashcards and Islamic resources which you can find on my Waldorf Homeschool Blog, have been creatively designed and are unique, For the core subjects, I mostly create math resources and posts well because. that's my specialism.
